Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club Race in Berlin
Today British Keelboat League (BKL) representative team, Royal Northern & Clyde YC, prepare to race in the 2nd round of the Sailing Champions League (SCL) at the Berliner Yacht Club, Germany.
Flying in the forecast was for snow, quite a contrast to the conditions experienced by Strathclyde Uni last week in Portugal, but it didn’t materialise, so practice sailing in the J70’s was possible as the team eyed up the competition.
Skipper and helm Nicole Macpherson said, ‘We’re looking forward to testing ourselves against other clubs, learning to sail J70s better and hopefully drinking a German beer or two with the opposition.’
The opposition comes from 10 Nations, each one qualifying to compete in the SCL as a result of finishing highly in their own National Keelboat Leagues last season. The 18 teams that will line up in Berlin include the winners of the leagues in Finland, France, Norway, Germany & Switzerland, so it’ll be a strong test for the RN&CYC team. We wish them well and we’ll be watching the results as they get posted real time over the 4 days of racing.
The RN&CYC gained selection into the Sailing Champions League as a result of their 4th place finish in the BKL Final last October, a fitting reward for the RYA club that has participated in and hosted BKL events since the league started in 2016.
2024 Could be your clubs turn to represent British clubs in the Sailing Champions League!
Follow the lead set by RN&CYC and enter your team in the next British Keelboat League event.
